31 Days of Restoration // Day 17

Let’s just have a moment of silence for the glorious fall weather that has finally made its way here…

And then, let’s go camping!  We’ll be trying our hand at camping this weekend and I’ve got a lot of feelings about it already, mostly mixed, due to the creepy crawlies and having to sleep outdoors.  But the chance to unplug and eat s’mores is just too tempting, and our mild weather is about to seriously taper off, so we’re getting away from it all and camping a whole fifteen miles from our cozy home (the more scenic parks farther out were booked).

As a self-classified weird kid growing up, I used to believe that I could communicate with mother nature, like trees and bodies of water.  And while I definitely don’t have any earth-bending magic skills, I think that spending time in nature does so much to restore a weary soul.  While I studied in Denmark, I spent so much of my time in and commuting around the city, that when the time finally came for my study tour to the German and British countrysides, I almost cried with relief at seeing the abundant flora, getting lost in the fields and trees.  I almost feel the same way here, now.  Luna and I took a nice long walk yesterday at a park near us, but even still the sounds of the light rail and the busy city noise couldn’t be escaped.  So hopefully that’s what this little camping excursion will bring us – a brief escape from the lights, sounds, and stress of life on the beltway. Amen and amen.
