Day 19 Thankfulness

I am thankful that my parents gave me a little brother.

John was a planned baby, and he was planned just for me.  I wanted a sister more than anything, and I was one disappointed three-year-old when I found out that he was a boy.  But still, he was my boy.  It took me a while to warm up to him, and I could probably say that it wasn’t until I went to college that we started getting along well.  Part of growing up is knowing that you can easily piss off your sibling, but choosing not to do it.  It took us some time to get to that point.  Even still, we were playmates, partners, and co-conspirators for our entire childhood.  And our lives will be tied together forever, not by choice, but by blood.  We always loved each other, we had to, but a couple of years ago we started liking each other too, and that’s pretty special.

Here’s to you, John, my first friend and my only brother.

  1. Very well put!! There is something very special about having a brother, especially a little brother. I’d have to say Cody is one of the best friends I’ve ever had/have.
