Musings of a nearlywed

The weather forecast for the wedding day has been fluctuating all day.

That’s what I get for trying to control/obsess over the weather.  But in all honesty, I think I will be alright if it does decide to rain, after all, the ceremony is only 15 minutes long, and there’s nothing wrong with our guests getting cozy under the loggia.

Wedding wedding wedding.  It’s all I do.  And as great as it is to be a bride, I am way more excited to be a wife.  Joe Bailey’s wife.  It’s going to be our greatest adventure yet.  And I am so thankful for that.  We have both recognized that it won’t always be easy or picture perfect, and because of some extremely valuable pre-marital counseling, we aren’t walking into this marriage with unrealistic expectations.  I don’t expect him to suddenly love to clean or eat healthy food.  And he doesn’t expect me to start watching ESPN over TLC.  We expect compromise, and so I think we are off to a good start.  Combining two different family backgrounds and lifestyles is hard, and there’s a lot of sticky spots and gray areas.  But it’s so wonderful, and so worthwhile when it’s with the right person.  Probably the biggest word to describe our relationship (and hopefully our marriage) is balance. We balance each other’s personalities and character traits, we balance our friendship with each other and with other people, we balance work and play, and we balance our priorities.

In a few short days, I get to marry my best friend (cheesiest thing ever, but I’m not even sorry because it’s true).  And after a relaxing week in the Caribbean, we will move to Charlottesville, where I will become a full time graduate student and Joe will enter the workforce.  There’s so much to do between now and then, like find my social security card so we can get a marriage license, pick up the wedding programs, pack up everything I own, along with a million other things.  But what I am most excited for is to settle down into our very own apartment and make a home for us in a brand new city.  I love new places and people, and am so excited for our move and our very first adventure together, as partners in crime.
